My Story
The Start : The story of Swingin' Syle started from a day in early 2018, when I, Priti Turakhia entered the premises of Rescue Foundation, an NGO that rescues and rehabilitates trafficked survivors, most of them minors . As part of rehabilitation, training in various skills is imparted to the rescued girls . I volunteered to teach the girls the craft of hand knotting plastic wire to form shopping bags and other products which used to be very popular several decades back. Helping to empower the girls by giving them alternate avenues of financial independence was the driving factor of this Project.
Project launch: As batch after batch of girls were trained in the basic skill, it became evident that having the basic skill was just not enough. They needed to be part of a full fledged program where they were exposed to the process of making different kinds of bags for a longer period of time , understood the aesthetics of contemporary style, the pricing and also how the bags were sold. Swingin' Style was launched to fulfill this need.
Towards recycled : However, after the project was launched, the fact that these wires were made of virgin plastic continued to trouble me. These wires were fully recyclable and in an ideal world would be recycled to manufacture wire again or other plastic products. However, we don't live in an ideal world and the faint niggle of dissatisfaction continued to grow. Thus started a search for recycled plastic wires. “Ask and you shall receive” says the Bible. We have now started our move towards wire made from recycled plastic. To take discarded plastic out of the environment and use it to make beautiful , long lasting products takes the sting out of using plastic for our products.
And so the story continues………….
